On most projects we are able to make repairs to solid hardwood flooring and finish in one day (depending on how many coats needed).
Our process
We test your floor for moisture to calculate the extent of damage. After determining that, we mark and measure all boards needed to be removed and replaced. Then cut them out using a finger jointing process to make repair less noticeable after completion. Then we glue and nail the new wood into place. In our final step, we sand and blend to match the new wood with the old.

Why a repair beats a replacement
Replacing a whole floor because of damage in one area is expensive and rarely necessary. Solid hardwood is built to be repaired — individual boards can come out and go back in, and the surface can be sanded and refinished many times. If you have a floor that is fundamentally sound with a bad patch in it, repairing that patch is almost always the better spend.
Matching an older floor
The difficult part of a repair is rarely the carpentry — it is the colour. Old floors have ambered with age and sunlight, so brand new wood in the same species will not match straight away. Matching stains to existing floors is a routine part of what we do, and we test on your actual boards before finishing the repair.

Can pet stains be removed from hardwood floors?
Surface discolouration will often sand out. Once urine has soaked through the finish and into the wood — and especially if it has reached the subfloor — sanding will not lift it, and the affected boards need to be cut out and replaced. We test the floor and tell you which situation you have before quoting.
Will the repair be visible?
That is the whole point of how we do it. We cut the damaged boards out using a finger jointing process so the seam is irregular rather than a straight line across the floor, then sand and blend the new wood into the old. On a matched floor, most repairs are very difficult to pick out afterwards.
How quickly can a repair be done?
On most projects we are able to make repairs to solid hardwood flooring and finish in one day, depending on how many coats are needed. Larger repairs, or ones that need a stain match tested first, take longer.
My floor got wet. Is it ruined?
Not necessarily. Water damage ranges from cupping that will flatten out again as the wood dries, to boards that have swollen or delaminated and have to come out. Do not sand a wet floor. Call us, let it dry, and we will assess what actually needs replacing.
